WELCOME TO THE WALLED GARDEN
"NOT BUSINESS AS USUAL".
FROM WEDNESDAY 20TH MAY, WE WILL BE OPEN
WEDNESDAY – SUNDAY, 12AM – 4PM.
Adhering to strict hygiene and safety procedures, we are excited to be doing a partial reopen for perennial plants, herbs, and takeaway drinks, cake and icecream to enjoy in the garden. The maximum number of people permissible in the garden is 30 so we would recommend that you book a time.
We have carefully considered the latest official government advice and feel that we can safely do a partial reopen of the Walled Garden with a number of adjustments to prioritise the safety of both customers and staff.
We are open primarily for shopping but recognise that we have enough space for people to enjoy the garden recreationally if they strictly adhere to the governments guidelines on 2m social distancing and only meeting one other person outside of their household. When visiting:
Please do not stay more than hour
We will have to restrict access around the site, only the entrance on the Tithe barn side will be open to customers and the working nursery side will be closed.
The entrance and plant bays have been set up to direct people around the café and garden areas.
We will implement a controlled queuing system outside the gates if needs be.
We have set up a booking system for those who may wish to visit. Booking helps us manage numbers in the garden and be better prepared. Preference will be given to those that book rather than drop in if we do get busy beyond our 30 person capacity.
We ask customers not to use the toilet as we are unable to do a deep clean between use.
Please be mindful to keep 2m away from other customers, especially with keeping your children close by and not running around the garden
Please DO NOT visit if either you or anyone in your household have been unwell
HEALTH AND SAFETY
Stringent cleaning procedures have been put in place across the café and plant areas to prioritise the safety of staff and customers alike.
Anti-bacterial hand wash will be available on entry and at the till points around the site.
Card payments only.
Please bring your own boxes or bags for any plants you wish to buy
Our staff will be adhering to strict social distancing guidelines.
Staff will follow the highest standards of personal hygiene, washing hands regularly, wearing face masks and gloves and maintaining a safe distance from other staff.
There will be no physical contact between staff and customers and we will be operating with a minimal number of staff to ensure limited contact is made.
Our staff are local, are well and will not have traveled to work on public transport.
For the past ten years we have been warmly welcoming people to this unique space to enjoy the peace tranquility and unique setting that this part of Somerset offers.
We are a small rural walled cottage garden in the heart of the Mells village, Somerset. Set in an acre of grounds the garden is split between a community nursery and a delightful rambling garden where you can grab a cup of tea or a pizza from the outdoor café and lose yourself in the tranquility. In the 1500's the garden was a site of a monastery belonging to Glastonbury Abbey.
The community plant nursery specialises in cottage garden perennials and herbs. Plant sales support a range of social programs aimed at improving the health and well-being of people in the community who may be experiencing isolation and loneliness.
Workshops and seminars are regularly scheduled through the season, and we have an artist in residence program that explores different ways of perceiving and constructing a sense of space in the garden.
The Garden and Cafe are open to the public from 1st April (depending on the weather!!!) through to the end of September every year. Phone to check on the really rainy days especially towards the end of the season as we sometimes close 01373 812597
If you want to enjoy a longer stay in the village book our gorgeous two bedroom cottage and enjoy having this lovely garden on your doorstep.
The Mells area is the perfect destination to be active and get some fresh air. There are a whole host of walking trails, the national cycle network is on our doorstep and you can even fresh water swim or get your PADI diving certificate at Vobster Quarry.
