For the past twelve years we have been warmly welcoming people to this unique space to enjoy the peace tranquility and unique setting that this part of Somerset offers.

We are a small rural walled cottage garden in the heart of the Mells village, Somerset. Set in an acre of grounds the garden is split between a community nursery and a delightful rambling garden where you can grab a cup of tea or a pizza from the outdoor café and lose yourself in the tranquility. In the 1500's the garden was a site of a monastery belonging to Glastonbury Abbey.

The community  plant nursery specialises in cottage garden perennials and herbs. Plant sales support a range of social programs aimed at improving the health and well-being of people in the community who may be experiencing isolation and loneliness. Workshops and seminars are regularly  scheduled through the season.

The Garden  and Cafe are open to the public until the end of September. If you want to enjoy a longer stay in the village book our gorgeous  two bedroom cottage and enjoy having this lovely garden on your doorstep.

Wed through to Sunday
11.00 TO 5.00PM
for the cafe and plant sales

the pizza oven is on all week  running between 12 and 4pm

While we transition into living with COVID some measures remain in place:

  • You no longer have to book to visit the cafe. We tend to be busy between 12-2.00pm on sunny days, especially at the weekends, so if  you would like a more tranquil visit best to avoid those times

  • We won't be asking you to sign into the NHS track and Trace when visiting the garden but we have the QR code if you wish to sign in

  • All our tables are dotted around the garden to make sure you have space

  • We operate a counter rather than table service, please keep at least a mtr from staff

  • We ask that you pay by card whenever possible

  • We have hand santisers in various places around the garden

  • We ask you to be thoughtful about keeping distance from people not in your group and acknowledging that other peoples risk tolerance may be lower than yours. This is important for children to be aware of, much as we don't want to curtail their fun in the garden please keep them close

  • We will refuse entry if the garden gets too busy

  • We are not accepting any parties or gatherings over 8 people

In response to other frequently asked questions:

  • The garden is closed to the public on Mondays and Tuesdays for our therapeutic programmes this includes Bank Holidays

  • Dogs on leads are very welcome

  • Please do not park in the Tithe car park, this must be kept clear for the groups that use the barn. There is a village carpark on Longfield rd by the Cricket field that can hold 60 cars.

The Walled Garden is partially accessible to visitors with mobility impairments.

There are stepped areas to different aspects of the garden but flat access to the cafe is possible from the Tithe Barn car park entrance.

The shale pathways can make it hard going for buggies and wheelchairs.

Dog walkers and cyclist welcome
