With much regret the cafe will be closed for the foreseeable future in order to protect customers from the current pandemic.

We have some lovely perennial plants that community groups have been growing over the winter months. I would be happy to met anyone at the garden by appointment if you want any plants.

Plant list is here

For the past ten years we have been warmly welcoming people to this unique space to enjoy the peace tranquility and unique setting that this part of Somerset offers.

We are a small rural walled cottage garden in the heart of the Mells village, Somerset. Set in an acre of grounds the garden is split between a community nursery and a delightful rambling garden where you can grab a cup of tea or a pizza from the outdoor café and lose yourself in the tranquility. In the 1500's the garden was a site of a monastery belonging to Glastonbury Abbey.

The community  plant nursery specialises in cottage garden perennials and herbs. Plant sales support a range of social programs aimed at improving the health and well-being of people in the community who may be experiencing isolation and loneliness.

Workshops and seminars are regularly  scheduled through the season, and we have an artist in residence program that explores different ways of perceiving and constructing a sense of space in the garden.

The Garden  and Cafe are open to the public from 1st April (depending on the weather!!!) through to the end of September every year. Phone to check on the really rainy days especially towards the end of the season as we sometimes close  01373 812597

If you want to enjoy a longer stay in the village book our gorgeous  two bedroom cottage and enjoy having this lovely garden on your doorstep.

The Mells area is the perfect destination to be active and get some fresh air. There are a whole host of walking trails, the national cycle network is on our doorstep and you can even fresh water swim or get your PADI diving certificate at Vobster Quarry

While the garden and cafe may be closed to

the public for the season.

it is a busy time in our community nursery.

We are working with a number of local community organisations offering opportunities for people  to connect with each other and nature through gardening

Coming up in Spring we will  have drop in  volunteer days anyone can join and corporate volunteer opportunities for any companies that would like to work on slightly large projects in the garden with their employees as part of a team building or training initiative.

The Walled Garden is partially accessible to visitors with mobility impairments.

There are stepped areas to different aspects of the garden but flat access to the cafe is possible from the Tithe Barn car park entrance.

The shale pathways can make it hard going for buggies and wheelchairs.

Dog walkers and cyclist welcome
